The STS is Switzerland’s official member country representative at the ITA, the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association.

In addition to one or more Swiss representatives participating at the AGM (annual general meeting), various Swiss experts are involved in ‘Working Groups’ of the ITA.

For many years, a periodic exchange with the specialized associations of neighboring countries has existed through regular contact and meetings.

The objectives depend on the country:

• to promote the exchange of knowledge and contacts in the field of tunnel design, construction and their structures,
• to achieve coordination of standards,
• and to achieve a possible uniform terminology.
